About Us

Wind.PH is a site that is aimed at establishing a focal point for wind engineering related literature for Filipinos or by Filipinos, wind engineering networking in the Philippines and effectively establish an "engineering virtual organization," and encouraging research and education on wind engineering in the Philippines.

It was created on 16 May 2010 and was spurred by the same idea behind the ASEANwind network.

Wind.PH is owned and updated by Ronwaldo Emmanuel R. Aquino, member of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineer's National Committee on Disaster Mitigation and Preparedness Strategies, and Disaster Quick Response Program (PICE - DMAPS and DQRP), and currently a graduate student of wind engineering at Tokyo Polytechnic University. On the Virtual Organization

We are using the term 'virtual organisation' to describe Wind.PH, and some of you might be asking, what is it?  It is actually something that is not new, at least not in wind engineering.  One such concept is the 'engineering virtual organization' which has been started by the New Frontier of Education and Research in Wind Engineering, the Global Center of Excellence (GCOE) Program of the Japanese Ministry of Education (MEXT) at the Tokyo Polytechnic University (TPU), lead by Prof. Yukio Tamura.

The GCOE Program at TPU is actually in collaboration with the NatHaz Modelling Laboratory at the University of Notre Dame, Illinois, USA, headed by Prof. Ahsan Kareem.  Prof. Kareem's NatHaz Lab in collaboration with GCOE-TPU has started the implementation of this virtual organisation with the website called

VORTEX-winds.

Is Wind.PH similar to VORTEX-winds?  Yes.  Are they the same?  No.  Wind.PH of course is more specific to Philippines-related wind engineering activities.  And VORTEX-winds is financially and thus also technologically more advanced than Wind.PH.  Wind.PH as mentioned, currently has the goal of gathering together wind engineering practitioners from or in the Philippines to promote this field of study in this part of the world.

Wind.PH Vision and Mission

Vision: "A wind engineering conscious Philippines"

Mission: "To promote research, education, collaboration, and networking in wind engineering in the Philippines, and ultimately to reduce the negative effects of wind and typhoons on Philippine and global society."
